Looking for a home away from home?
Temporary Residency
The temporary residency includes various visas and permits, including work, study, and visitor visas.
People applying for temporary residency:
Must show they have strong enough ties to their home country and that they intend to leave Canada when their stay is approved to end.
- Must not work or study unless authorized by the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada.
The temporary residency enables people to take advantage of educational opportunities, work, or just travel around Canada while experiencing its rich culture. For the duration of the stay in Canada, it is crucial to abide by the terms of the particular permission or visa.
Visitor
Foreign nationals can enter Canada for brief periods with temporary visitor residency. The Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) for visa-required countries and the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for visa-exempt countries are the two major possibilities. TRV applicants must apply at a Canadian Visa office. However, eTA applicants can apply online. Visitors must have valid passports, proof of adequate funds, and a specific reason for their presence. With the proper permits, temporary residents can work or study. Regulations are subject to change, so always confirm the most recent requirements with official Canadian sources before organizing a visit.

Worker
For a foreign national to work in Canada under Temporary Work Visa, need an approved work permit from the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada. This permit allows foreign nationals to work for a limited time in the country.
- The temporary Foreign Worker Program requires a positive LMIA ( Labour Market Impact Assessment) to obtain a work permit. The employer must demonstrate to ESDC ( Employment and Social Development of Canada) that the proposed position can not be filled either by a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident and that the hiring is legitimately done according to the employer’s obligations. This type of work permit is known as a Closed work permit. LMIA processing charge must be paid by the employer only and can not be recovered from the employee. The employer must comply the Canadian labour standards. On the other hand, employees must comply with the conditions stated on their work permits. They may be found inadmissible in case of non-compliance. The permit’s duration usually is equal to the period of the work offer, with potential extensions. Workers can get significant work experience, contribute to the Canadian economy, and use the opportunity to gain permanent status in certain circumstances. This curriculum provides different skill sets and global perspectives to Canada’s workforce.
- The International Mobility Program does not require an LMIA for a foreign worker to work in Canada. However, it can be employer-specific ( other than the ineligible employer) or an open work permit. In many situations, a foreign national can work in Canada with an open work permit precisely for any employer. I.e. Working holidays, Post Graduate Work Permits, Spousal Work Permit.
- Without work permit.
